Marine Advisory 02/2024

SUBJECT: Korean Register of Shipping official name change to Korean Register

Dear Shipowner/Operator/Master:

The purpose of this Marine Advisory is to inform interested parties of the Liberian Administration’s actions following the reported name change and rebranding of the classification society Korean Register of Shipping to Korean Register. As confirmed in Korean Register’s announcement of 14 July 2017, Korean Register of Shipping was rebranded and change its official name to Korean Register effective 1 September 2017.

Recognition of Statutory Certificates

Korean Register of Shipping was a Liberian Recognized Organization (RO) and Recognized Security Organization (RSO) and authorized, under its Agreement with the Administration, to perform statutory services and issue statutory certificates on behalf of Liberia.

An amended Agreement recognizing Korean Register as the successor to Korean Register of Shipping and as a Liberian RO and RSO has been signed.

Continuous Synopsis Record (CSR)

Existing CSR’s which identify Korean Register of Shipping as the class society, RO or RSO should be treated as identifying Korean Register and will remain valid, until issuance of a new CSR is required, due to change of other required information.

A copy of this Advisory should be retained on board for presentation to interested parties, including Port State Control Authorities.

For questions regarding this note please contact this Administration’s Regulations and Standards Department at email: regsandstandards@liscr.com or via telephone number +1 703 790 3434.
