Re: Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) on Safety of Navigation
Dear Owner/Operator:
The Paris, Tokyo, and Black Sea Port State Control authorities are currently carrying out a concentrated inspection campaign (CIC) in ports in their regions focusing on Safety of Navigation (SOLAS Chapter V). The CIC will be conducted in conjunction with routine port state control inspections and will continue through November 30, 2008.
The purpose of the campaign is to verify the effective implementation of Safety of Navigation requirements on board ships, including:
- Compliance with the carriage requirement for all size/types of ships and where required there is a valid statutory certificate together with relevant record of equipment; • The equipment has type approval as appropriate and is functioning effectively; and
- The master and watch keeping officers are familiar with the bridge equipment.
Port state control officers (PSCOs) will use a standard checklist similar to the one attached, which includes some explanatory guidelines.
Shipowners and ship operators are encouraged to bring this information to the attention of their Master’s and Designated Persons Ashore.
