MARITIME SECURITYADVISORY – 04/2009
SUBJECT: Piracy Spreads to the Red Sea
To Ship Owners/Operators and Masters:
Please be advised that reports indicate that Somali pirates have expanded their attack zones to the Red Sea. This expansion is apparently due to the sea state and swell created by the SW Monsoon in the Arabian Sea. A warning to vessels traveling in the region has been put out by Euro NAVFOR, Further guidance can be found at the MSCHOA website www.MSCHOA.org
Vessels should exercise caution and Masters should be especially vigilant as they may now be targeted in the Red Sea. Every security precaution should be followed when traversing the area.
